Cleric and four healthcare workers kidnapped by separatists in Cameroon

Armed men confirmed to be separatist fighters have kidnapped a cleric and four healthcare workers in Cameroon.

The health care workers from Banso Baptist Hospital were kidnapped along with a Christian pastor in the northwestern region of the country, days after government forces arrested three health workers from the hospital for allegedly treating and conspiring with fighters known as "Amba Boys".

Amba fighters accuse the kidnapped victims of colluding with government forces by giving out the location of their members and working against them in the area.

The whereabouts of the kidnapped health care workers and cleric are unknown, but state forces said efforts are underway to rescue them.

Splinter groups and fighters are linked to the series of kidnappings and other crimes that include attacks on civilians in the restive Anglophone part of Cameroon.

Meanwhile, soldiers have been charged in reports of harassment and invasion of medical centers in the separatist part of Cameroon.

Rights groups have called for an end to the "attack" on health workers, saying it has become worrying.
