The federal high court in Umuahia has denied the application to transfer the 'extraordinary rendition' suit of Nnamdi Kanu to Abuja.

In the proceeding on Wednesday, the court in the capital city of Abuja state, ruled that it has the jurisdiction to hear and determine the suit filed by the IPOB leader.

The court condemned the manner which Nnamdi Kanu was seized and renditioned to Nigeria, stating that the torture and extraordinarily renditioned amounts to infringement on his rights.

The court also awarded a sum of 500 million naira to the separatist leader "for damages", and asked the federal government of Nigeria to return him to Kenya where he was kidnapped and extraordinarily renditioned to Nigeria.

Aloy Ejimakor, the special Counsel for Nnamdi Kanu confirmed the development.

In a tweet, he said "Court DENIES federal govt’s second preliminary objection to its jurisdiction based on Res Judicata. The Court rules that the Abia State High Court judgment of Jan 19, 2022 was specific to the 2017 military invasion, not the 2021 extraordinary rendition.

"Court ruled that the Extraordinary Rendition is a violation of his fundamental rights. All 7 prayers sought from the court granted, including restoring him to his state of being as of 19th June, 2021 & halting his prosecution."
