The Southern Youth Forum (SYF) has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to comply with the judgment of the Court of Appeal that acquitted Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the pro-Biafra group – Indigenous People of Biafra.

On Thursday, the Court of Appeal in Abuja, which condemned Kanu's kidnapping and extraordinary rendition to Nigeria, ordered his release after acquitting him of terrorism charges, but Nigeria's federal government disagreed with the court, saying it would use other methods to prosecute the separatist leader.

The SYF has disagreed with the Muhammadu Buhari administration and said the government must comply with the court order.

The group's spokesperson, Dezia Kue, said in a statement on Friday that disobeying the court order would plunge the country into anarchy.

Hon. Kue stated that the release of Kanu will restore peace in the Southeast and Nigeria's integrity in the international community.

The group described the judgment of the Court of Appeal as a victory for justice.
