Terror threat: No need to panic, Buhari tells Nigerians

Muhammadu Buhari

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has called for calm following reports from the US and UK of terrorist threats and imminent attack in Abuja the country's capital.

The President said the travel advisory and evacuation of US and UK citizens should not cause panic among Nigerians.

In a statement by Garba Shehu, President Buhari said that UK and US advice to their respective citizens to travel to each other's countries contains the same warning. “Unfortunately, terror is a reality the world over".

According to Buhari, the report does not mean that a terrorist attack in Abuja is imminent.

He said security agencies are aware of the security situation in Nigeria and ready for any emergency, adding that the threat is not sufficient to warrant any form of panic or order evacuations of citizens as the United Nations and Nigeria's allies didn't say it.
