The United States government has authorized the evacuation of its citizens, employees and family members from Nigeria.

This came 72 hours after it issued a security warning about the increased risk of terrorist attacks in Nigeria.

In an update on its travel advisory for Nigeria, the U.S. State Department on Oct. 25 authorized an emergency evacuation, citing an increased risk of a mass terrorist attack in the country.

It said the US embassy in Abuja has limited ability to provide emergency assistance to its citizens in Nigeria, but the US State Department noted that its embassy in Lagos is providing emergency services to US citizens.

Meanwhile, Nigerian authorities continued to call for calm, saying security forces are equal to the task should any emergency arise.
