Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, the leading Igbo sociocultural group has called for the southeastern region of Nigeria to be allowed to produce the next president in 2023, stating that it is in the best interest of the country at the moment.

A statement by Dr. Alex Ogbonia, a spokesman for Ohanaeze, criticized Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, for asking people in the southeast to wait until 2027 for an Igbo to become president of Nigeria.

Ohanaeze described Atiku's statement as nonsense and said that nobody from the South East or Igboland will accept such advice.

The group said that everyone knows that it is the southeast's turn to produce Nigeria's next president of Nigeria.

Any person or group that speaks or moves to prevent an Igbo person from becoming the next president is not sincere and is making a big mistake that will affect the country, Ohanaeze said in the statement received by GIST BRIEFLY on Monday.

Meanwhile, Labour Party candidate Peter Obi is gaining more supporters as the rally for him continues across the country.

Many aggrieved Nigerians believe that the Igbo-born politician is the only person who can fix Nigeria.
