You have no reason again to detain Nnamdi Kanu, Umeh tells FG

Victor Umeh

Hon. Victor Umeh, the former National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has criticized the Federal Government of Nigeria for keeping Nnamdi Kanu incarcerated despite a Court of Appeal judgment ordering his release.

Umeh, saddened by the disobedience of the court order by the Muhammadu Buhari administration, said the government had no reason to continue keeping the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

In conversation with reporters, Umeh said the Court of Appeal judgment that acquitted Mr. Nnamdi Kanu of terrorism, is an opportunity for the federal government to release and negotiate  with the head of the IPOB to end the secessionist movement in the south-east.

He said that the continued detention of Kanu would only increase tensions in the country and worsen the security situation in the Eastern region.

Umeh frowned at comment by Nigeria's Attorney General Abubakar Malami who insisted that the IPOB leader has other cases to answer.

Kanu has already been acquitted of any crime by the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Umeh said.

He called on the federal government to embrace peace by releasing the IPOB leader and negotiating with him.
