Ghana warns citizens to avoid traveling to Abuja, Give Shocking Reasons

Ghana's President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

The Government of Ghana has warned its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria.

The advisory follows some foreign missions warning against travel to the Nigerian capital due to what they described as a "terror threat".

On Wednesday, Ghana's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration expressed concern over the security situation in Abuja and directives from Nigerian authorities to close hotels in residential areas.

The public should avoid traveling to the city as there is a high risk of terrorism, crime, armed attacks, kidnappings and others, the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said it is monitoring the situation and would provide updates when the situation improves.
