Why Hungary will not train Ukrainian forces – Foreign Minister

Peter Szijjarto, Hungary's foreign minister

Peter Szijjarto, Hungary's foreign minister, said the country would remain the only European Union country not involved in training Ukrainian troops.

Szijjarto's comment came amid fighting between Russia and Ukraine.

He told RIA Novosti that Hungary would not participate in the training of Ukrainian forces because it pursues peace and not escalation.

Finland had announced that it planned to join other Western countries in training Ukrainian forces.

Meanwhile, reports confirmed by the Kremlin on Monday indicate that talks between Russia and the United States initiated by Washington have taken place in Ankara.

According to reports, CIA Director Bill Burns met with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Naryshkin, to discuss detained US citizens and the risks of nuclear weapons.

Russian state media, RT, said on Monday that no negotiations had taken place.
