How To join the Nigerian Army in 2024 (SSCE, NCE, ND, HND & BSC)

The Nigerian Army is the land force of the Nigerian Armed Forces. The Armed forces of Nigeria include the Nigerian Army, The Nigerian Air Force and the Nigerian Navy. The Chief of Army Staff is the highest ranking military officer of the Nigerian Army. There are different ways of joining the Nigerian Army. We will explain in detail on how to join the Nigerian Army in 2024 with each qualifications.

How To join the Nigerian Army with SSCE.

You can join the Nigerian Army with SSCE in two methods. It’s either you join the Nigerian Army recruitment or you join the Nigerian Defence Academy. Meanwhile we have already written an article on how to join the Nigerian Army Recruitment. So let’s first understand how to join the Nigerian Defence Academy and the requirements. Those who joined the Nigerian Army through the Nigerian Defence Academy are regular Course(RC): You apply just like you are applying to go to the university. Nigerian Defence Academy awards degrees too in different fields. So after 5 years of military training along side academic training in certain fields of study (example. computer science, administration, engineering etc) you are commissioned and a 2nd Lieutenant of the Nigerian Army.

Requirements to join the Nigerian Defence Academy

• Applicants must have a minimum of five credit passes at SSCE, That is WAEC, NECO or GCE or Any Equivalent Obtained from in not more than two sittings relevant to the faculty of their choices. Two of those five Credit must be English and Mathematics, Then at least one supporting relevant credits in addition to the credits in faculty of Military Science and interdisciplinary studies, faculty of arts and social science and faculty of Science. However, only one supporting relevant credit is needed in Faculty of Engineering.
• Applicants should be at least 17years of Age and not above 22 years old as at the time of registration.
• Candidates who wish to join the Nigerian AirForce must be between the Age of 17 and 18 at the Year of entry.
• Interested Applicants must not be less than 1.68meters tall in Male and 1.58 meters in Female.
• Interested Applicants must be physically and Medically fit and must be of a Good moral character.
• All Applicants must be single male and female without legal obligation to support child or any other individuals.
• All Candidates must provide their certificate of State of Origin obtained from the local government area of the applicant or a certificate of a State indigeneship obtained from the office of the State Governor.
• Interested Applicants awaiting results are not acceptable.
• Applications submitted without results will not be accepted.
• Only Results that are not more than 5 years old are to be accepted.

Please note that you Must write Jamb and Choose NDA as your first choice while filling the registration form. If You did not make Jamb cut off mark, There is no chance for you going to write NDA Entrance Exam. Except in some cases where NDA Exam is first written.

Recruitments to join the Nigerian Army recruitment (SSCE NCE and ND)

1. Be a Nigerian citizen by birth or descent
2. Be not less than 18 years to 22 years for Non-Tradesmen and 18 to 26 years of age for tradesmen.
3. Be medically and physically fit
4. Have a minimum of 4 credit passes in WAEC/NECO including English and Mathematics
5. Possess valid means of identification
6. Have no criminal record.

The next method of joining the Nigerian Army is joining the Nigerian Army as a Graduate. To join the Nigerian Army as a Graduate, it’s either you join the Nigerian Army DSSC which Also mean Direct Short Service Commission or you join the Nigerian Army SSC which also means short service commission. You can see the difference between DSSC and SSC in the Nigerian Army.

Let’s start with Short Service Combatant Commission (SSC). You can apply for this after graduating from a polytechnic (ie Higher National Diploma —HND.) or the University (B.Tech., B.Sc.,B.Ed or any of it’s equivalent) and you are still to be within the age of 24–29 when you will be commissioned. This course normally takes 9months sometimes, it takes up to 12months because of airborne and counter terrorism training which may be attached to the training. Finally, is the DSSC which also mean Direct Short Service Course. this course is for professionals that will mostly serve in non-combat roles in the Army. Roles like Educators, Medical practitioners, clergy etc. This course takes 6months and after, the cadet will be commissioned as a Lieutenant.
