In fact, a recent study by the International Police Science Association found that the average Nigerian police officer makes just N120,000 which is equivalent to $200 per month. Officers in the lowest rank earn just N43,000 which is also equivalent to $80 per month. Officers in the higher ranks make a bit more, with the average salary coming in at N550,000 which is equivalent to $1,000 per month.

The Nigerian Police Force has two categories of ranks. The Commissioned Officers and the Police Recruits. What are the allowances Nigerian police officers are entitled to?
Nigerian Police Allowances
As a Nigerian police officer, you’re entitled to a number of allowances and benefits. Just like other Paramilitary Organizations in Nigeria. These allowances include
- Transport allowance
- Special duty allowance,
- Housing allowance and a medical allowance. (For those who stay outside barracks.)
- Special Force Allowance eg. Mopol
You may also be eligible for a pension and gratuity when you retire if you serve for the required years. In addition, Nigerian Police Officers are given a number of days off each year to compensate for additional hours worked.
Nigerian Police Training Allowance
There is another allowance in the Nigerian Police Force also known as training allowance. The allowances is for those who are on training in the Nigerian Police, Either Police ASP Program (Those who joined the Nigerian Police as a Graduate) Nigerian Police Recruits or the Nigerian Police Academy Polac. It has been revealed that Nigerian Police officers earn a salary of ₦711,490 every month. This is the highest salary level among all the Nigerian security agencies.
